3 Ways To Prepare Your Home For Sale

The Sullivan Team is often asked the question, “What should we do to get our home ready to sell?”  

There are a number of things you can do to give yourself the greatest chance of getting the most money for your home in the shortest amount of time.  

Once you make the decision to sell your home, you need to think of what it would feel like for a prospective buyer to walk through your home.  You will want to spruce up, clear out, clean like you have never cleaned before and stage each and every room so a prospective buyer says, “I want to live here”.

Let’s talk about styling with Vignettes.  

A Vignette is a small arrangement of objects or furniture, which usually includes pieces that reflect the personality of the person who lives in the home.  

A Vignette will make a room look more polished and pulled together.  

Take a look at each room in your home and think about how you might arrange some beautiful Vignette’s to give each room a positive first impression.    

Your first Vignette starts at the front door.  

This is the first impression your potential buyers have before they even enter your home.  

Think about “that house” in the neighborhood that makes you feel welcome the minute you walk up to the front door.  

Try adding some beautiful flowers in varying pot sizes and make sure to keep them watered.  

Maybe there is room on your front porch to add a pretty small chair with a gorgeous colorful pillow.

Most designers will tell you to style your Vignettes in groups of three.  If all three items are the same or similar, make sure they are in varying heights.  

But, think about how interesting a group of three would be if they were not the same.  

If you have an interesting mix of three items you want to arrange, a simple rule to follow is have something vertical, something horizontal and something sculptural to tie the three together.  

A pleasing look to create on your built in shelves is to use layering with depth.  

Place objects from the back of the flat surface to the front instead of in a straight line the length of the surface.

Vary the height of the objects.  

Use small pedestals to elevate items.  Or try stacking a few books to create a platform for smaller items.  

Placing objects atop a mirror, or leaning them against a mirror that’s on the wall, is an easy way to create a sense of dimension.
